HMC Welcomes NSW Police Announcement of 30 New MCLO Positions
Hunter Multicultural Communities welcomes the announcement by NSW Police Force regarding 30 additional Multicultural Community Liaison Officer (MCLO) positions across NSW.
Earlier this year, HMC coordinated a regional Call to Action endorsed by 32 organisations across Northern NSW, including multicultural organisations, legal centres, women’s services, health services, and settlement providers.
The joint statement highlighted the rapid growth of multicultural communities across Northern NSW and called for:
- increased MCLO capacity across the region
- at least one MCLO per district
- stronger female MCLO representation in high-demand areas
This announcement shows what collective community voice and evidence-informed advocacy can achieve.
HMC thanks the many organisations, community leaders, frontline workers, local MPs, and supporters who backed the regional advocacy effort, including Tim Crakanthorp MP and Sonia Hornery MP.
Northern NSW communities must now receive their fair share of these new positions.
We look forward to continuing to work constructively with NSW Police, government, and communities.
Thanks to NSW Police for their commitment to a multicultural NSW. We strongly feel that a strong public sector is essential to ensuring equitable access, community safety, and culturally responsive services across Northern NSW
